ماجرای کتاب از نظر زمانی مربوط به اواخر حکومت سلسله بیست و ششم فراعنه مصر است و به چگونگی انقراض این سلسه به دست ایرانیان و سقوط امپراتوری فراعنه می‌پردازد. این دوره هم‌زمان است با حکومت سلسله هخامنشیان و سلطنت کمبوجیه بر ایران.
